I had the pleasure of attending a private estate sale in Moraga Estates, which is a gated community in the hills of Bel Air, CA. This is from the estate of a prosperous philanthropic family. The designer of the 8,000 sq ft home was noted architect and designer Cleo Baldon (the house was furnished by Cleo’s classic and iconic furniture) whose brother and sister in law were the home owners. This is an antique or vintage cut crystal and silver-topped decanter, with a Gorham Silver Co sterling silver stopper. The decanter features a bulbous, swirl-fluted body and a ribbed spherical stopper. The clear crystal body exhibits deep, sweeping spiral or pillar-molded flutes with notched detailing, complemented by a round, fluted silver cap or stopper. Vessels of this shaft-and-globe or spiral-fluted form with metal mountings were popular during the late Victorian to early 20th-century period. Excellent antique pre owned condition with no noted chips or cracks, some oxidation to silver (I polished it enough to show how nice it is). Tiny nick on stopper glass dauber. Measures about 13″ tall x about 5″ wide on bottom. It is 9 3/4 tall without stopper on. Weighs 4 lbs 3 oz before packing. Excellent antique condition with normal wear, no chips or cracks, small minor nick to stopper glass dauber. Sterling silver top of stopper monogrammed G (their last name began with a G). They had an amazing collection of napkin ring holders, Asian art, jewelry and modern art. Pieces I will be listing in the coming days and weeks.
