This exquisite piece, crafted in Sweden, features a faceted, octagonal design with a thick polished base and matching geometric stopper, embodying Orrefors’ mid-century modernist aesthetic (circa 1960s-1980s). The decanter retains its original red and gold “Orrefors Sweden” sticker, confirming its pristine, unused state, and is etched with “Orrefors 3229-111″ on the base for authenticity. Orrefors, a renowned Swedish glassworks company, was founded in 1898 in Småland, Sweden, on the site of a former ironworks established in 1726. Initially, the company produced utilitarian glass items like window panes, bottles, and jars, using waste wood from local forests as fuel. In 1913, Johan Ekman acquired Orrefors and shifted its focus toward high-quality crystal and art glass, hiring skilled craftsmen from Bohemia and designers like Knut Bergkvist. In the mid-20th century, designers like Vicke Lindstrand, Sven Palmqvist, and Ingeborg Lundin furthered Orrefors’ reputation with techniques like Kraka and Ariel. Despite challenges from global competition, Orrefors merged with Kosta Boda in 1990, forming Orrefors Kosta Boda AB, and joined the New Wave Group in 2005.
