This exquisite handmade (lavorazione a mano) 24-Karat gold vintage decanter set complete with 7 glasses and hand-signed by Sergio Zane would make the ultimate decorative or functional piece in any home. Striking ruby red Murano glass forms the foundation of this piece adorned on its surface with beautifully coloured enamels and Sgraffito style frangipanni decors. Magnificent 24-Karat gold leaf trims the decanter’s top, neck, all 7 glasses and the wonderful enamel decorations. Decanter bottom marked S. Decanter stands 25cm tall by 11cm wide while each glass stands 8.5cm tall and 6.5cm wide. Some gold leaf wearing away from the decanter’s top as pictured. Otherwise, each piece of this set is as new and in remarkable condition. This decanter set was decorated in Murano, Venice by the Salvadori family (since 1947), with 24-Karat gold “Sgraffito” and many coloured enamels. The 24-Karat gold leaf and enamel are applied by hand to the glass using a traditional technique. When the decoration has been applied, the piece is heated in a furnace called a “muffola”, where it remains pegged until it reaches a temperature of 520 C and the gold and the enamel fuse with the glass. In the second stage, another layer of enamel is applied, and the piece undergoes another firing in the muffola. Finally, the finishing touches are made to the enamel with gold paste before a final firing.
