This stunning and hard-to-find Blenko glass decanter is a true mid-century modern collectible, designed by Joel Myers during his time at Blenko Glass Company. Model #657L (the “L” denoting the large version), this decanter was produced only between 1965 and 1966 and features the original hand-blown stopper. Crafted in a rich olive green hue, the decanter stands at 19″ tall with the stopper in place and measures approximately 7″ across the shoulders. No chips no cracks no cloudiness or residue. I have owned lots of 715’s this is the only one I’ve ever seen where the bubbles are this defined, it looks exactly like a 611s vase with the rim of a 715. So I’m not sure if this is a special piece made “after hours” using the 611s mold flatting the rim, or maybe it was just one of the first pieces made using a new mold for the 715 so everything is very defined since the mold was fresh, the inside of rim is ground so it’s definitely meant to hold the stopper. Very interesting piece nonetheless, and definitely blenko, I have added three photos showing what I typically see in the 715’s to show the differences, minor height differences are normal between pieces, but the bubbles are noticeably more defined. I have definitely never seen another on like this!
